Life After Key - Middle School

LIFE AFTER KEY COMMITTEE REPORT

The Life After Key Committee (LAK) was created after a LSRT (now LSAT) survey of Key parents revealed that their number one concern about Key is what happens after Key. Key parents are especially interested in having high quality public school middle options.

The LAK Committee focuses on two goals. First, the LAK Committee seeks to make sure that parents have objective and up-to-date information about public middle schools. (Private schools are not part of our focus. ) For the last several years we have organized a Middle School Fair for parents of elementary school children at which leaders from local public and charter middle schools present information and answer questions. We also compile information on middle schools in an easy-to-compare format, including a "census" of which schools graduating Key students attend. We also have organized events at which students and parents from Hardy, Deal and Latin speak about their experiences.

Second, the LAK Committee seeks to build relationships among various stakeholders and decision-makers for public middle school options. We have met extensively with parents from other local elementary schools and middle schools and found considerable common ground. We have also met with public officials such as Mary Cheh.

The Middle School Fair for this year is planned for December 14 from 7 to 9 pm in the Key School cafeteria/auditorium.
