Dear Key Family:
I just came back from Fillmore Night at Key.
Fantastic! This was the third and final year end event celebrating our
students as artists. We started with the Visual Arts Show on April 29th
at our Fillmore campus, then our Music Concert at UDC in May, and
tonight our Performing Arts Night at Key. All of these shows were
incredible and let our students shine and show off their individual talents.
In addition to the great work of the students and
teachers, these shows have something else in common. They were all supported by
the Friends of Fillmore. These shows have brought some wonderful surprises to
our families! Our 3rd-5th graders are lucky enough to choose their Fillmore
classes and participate in evening performances to show off their hard work.
When we asked for your support last fall you might not have known much about
Fillmore, but by now *every* child grades K-5 has had their work highlighted at
one or more of these shows.
Please show your support for your child(ren)'s self
expression, talent and hard work by donating to our new secure online donation
site. All the supplies for Fillmore are supplied by Friends of Fillmore (aka
Fillmore's PTA). The paper, glue, paints, clay, ink cartridges, instruments,
tap shoes, props, dance and drama costumes- are paid for by Friends of
Fillmore. DCPS matches us dollar for dollar in paying the salaries of our
Fillmore teachers (did you know our favorite PE teacher, Jonathon Colton, is a
Fillmore employee, too?) Yet all supplies have to be covered by donations from
parents, community members and foundations. Even the bus for the drama
students' astounding performance at the Folger Shakespeare Theatre was paid for
by Friends of Fillmore.

PS- as of Thursday night, the donate.net site was
having a glitch with processing the "family" and "honorary
artist" levels of membership. You can always click on the top row labeled
"supporting donation" and fill in a specific amount. Or click on
"give" next to a level you feel comfortable with and enter
"1" for one membership of that level. You will receive an email
confirmation if you like, but don't worry, your email won't be shared with
anyone else. Thanks again!
